Joshua L. Martin
February 7, 1983 - August 31, 2014
Through this Memorial Fund we honor the life of Josh Martin; husband, son, brother, grandson, friend, and past Five Pines camper. All donations made through this page will be used toward the "Goliath the Giant" climbing tower project. The tower will empower communities to grow stronger kids within an environment which allows them to experience personal growth and know God's love.

On October 15, 2014, the 5000-pound metal roof was finally raised by crane to top off the 65-foot "Goliath the Giant" climbing tower. Since 1995 over 20,000 students have been challenged in character, team building, and problem solving through the Five Pines experiential education program called MAX (Maximum Adventure eXperience).
The MAX program uses group cooperatives, including low ropes initiatives, a high ropes course and zip line, and tall tree climb. Five Pines’ original tower, built in 1994, needed to be replaced due to the age and size of utility poles used in construction which did not meet new standards.
“We are a certified course. Retiring the old tower was something that we needed to do. It became an opportunity to really dream about building a tower that would grow our programs to the next level. The tower project is important to us because it will provide a unique high-adventure activity that will truly enhance our outdoor program,” said Michael Holets, Executive Director. “In our programs we use experiential education and perceived risk as tools to create a learning environment that increases knowledge, develops new skills and clarifies values. We are very excited about the learning opportunities that the tower will create. Believe me when I say the world looks different from 50 feet off the ground. That difference provides some great teachable moments.” With a 52 and 1/2-foot climbing surface, the tower will be one of the tallest outdoor climbing towers not only in Michigan, but the Midwest. The premiere tower is scheduled to open spring of 2015.
