History
Jim & Judy Scofield
In 1840, Five Pines Ministries' founder Jim Scofield's great, great grandfather, O.D. Snow, established a farm in Berrien Center, Michigan. On the property, he constructed a large house and barn, fronted with five large pine trees. The farm became known as Five Pines Farm.
In 1970, Jim moved his family onto the "old homestead" containing the original 40 acres of land. The land had not been farmed for the past 10 years, and the Scofields decided it would be a great place to raise their two children, Tanya and Kirk.
In 1975, God allowed a near breakup of Jim and Judy's marriage to draw them into a relationship with Him. As they experienced this new relationship with Jesus Christ, they felt committed to let go of the farm and their lives, that God might in some small way use them in the lives of families and young people in their community.
Five Pines Ministries became incorporated in 1979. We are an evangelical Christian Camp, not affiliated with any denomination.
The ministry's message to people in the surrounding communities has been based on Christ's words in John 10:10, "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
